Thanks for the carousel Wee. It's really pretty.
Now I just have to get some paint to finish it up.

I'm thrilled, what a great way to start the year!
I just received a letter from NAFA with my results and I got 6 As and 2 Bs!
My GPA for this semester is 3.8 out of 4 :)
I must thank God for this.

The trip to London opened my eyes and has been an amazing experience. In short, I've fallen in love with it. It's not that London is pretty like Paris. On the contrary, it's very much like New York. "Industrial" as my mum calls it. It's old and even grey. But the people are priceless. I walked into a little bookshop and the girl at the counter had electric blue hair. People there in general are reserved but helpful beyond what is expected. I've made a friend there, Pierre (Scottish, now imagine the accent), who was working in a bank but has quit in search of spiritual fulfillment. He takes care of a beautiful home at Oakwoods, which is where we stayed at and where I will probably stay when I go. Education-wise, I'm working towards Central Saint Martin's (Harvard's equivalent in the Arts).
Shopping there is ridiculous but on my return trip during my 8-hour wait for the transfer flight, we took a quick trip to the central and sales are AMAZING. Virtually all shops go on a 50% sale for everything.
I'll let photos do the rest of the talking.

London Police

This was at the Portobello Market

And here we ice-skated

Okay, I'll start on the second part now, Portugal. I've taken a few pictures of the farm so you can get an idea of what it's like.

The bird-eye view taken in 1999 of my grandparents' land

The little orchard

This is my granddad, proud of his babies

Chickens! They're usually running around wild but I managed to get them in their coop. Unfortunately, no pigs this year (we had it for dinner)

And with chickens, we get eggs - or is it the other way round?

Here's a bit of extra-knowledge. This is how it looks like when a hen is developing eggs within her

Dinner with the family and friends

The fire Nick made at our back kitchen

Entrance of Lisbon (no other country in Europe has these skies in winter)

In the second week of the trip, we went to Algarve, the south of Portugal. A great tourist attraction (especially among the English) because of the beaches and warm weather even in winter. We went there because of land that we have there, which my mum is intending to use for retirement. It stretches 7,000 square metres and ends with a river.

The land

The dry river due to lack of rain

Nick and I found this giganormous cactus close to the river

This is one beach about 4km from the land. It's called Pedra Amarela (Yellow Stone) I'm sure you can tell why

Now, I take you back home again.

Lilies we picked out in Lisbon

And that's about all the photos I'll put up. The trip was a great getaway but nonetheless, it feels good to be back home in my own bed again. Happy new year to everyone!

Aza - my Thanks [Dec. 31st, 2007|02:28 am]
I don't think I should start the new year without a little reflection and thanks to God for all that have been good this year as well as the bad for surely there has to be a reason for them as well.

THANK YOU GOD FOR...

1. Justin. No explanations required.

2. Getting me through this year in one piece.

3. That I could have time off to myself after leaving SAJC, and even though I'm having a little trouble returning to an institution, I know all will be fine in the end.

4, For steadfast friends. That life could never be lived alone when I have you people.

5. For family. That we're all together.

6. (similar to Laura's) That my darling Brownie is still faithfully by my side.

7. For a church where I know I belong.

See you all tomorrow for the countdown. I don't know what to wear.

Cynthia: Yaps, you're missed. A lot.

LOVE

Laura- My 2007 Reflections [Dec. 28th, 2007|11:44 am]

[Current Mood | chipper]

The year is ending and i guess it is appropriate to think about it. Although i can't really say this year was as rewarding and satisfactory as bianca's. So here's my list:

Happy things this year brought me:

1. Good friends that helped made my horrible MJC exprience much better

2. Even more wonderful friends at SAJC, despite the general horrible SAJC population =)

3. A good year academically ( i got the award thing too like bi)

4. Reconcilation with my dad and good relationship since then

5. That i know i'll still have you guys with me as always

6. That i also still have lisa, who has helped me countless times

7. The surprisingly open and understanding people who dont judge me after knowing about lisa and me

8. That my great-grandma could still live through christmas and new years

9. That precious hasn't died yet

10. And lastly, that the world hasn't ended yet. Haha..

Things i could live without:

1. Unstable relationships

2. My grandma's passing away

3. My great-grandma's frail condition

Hmm... There's always the plus and minus to everything.. Oh well, i'm looking forward to what next year brings.

To aza: I hope you find a JC that you can get into soon

To bi: We'll get through a levels together =)

To cyn: Good luck with everything

P.S I'll get back to the both of you about our new year's eve dinner and everything.

Have happy new year!

Aza - Irony of $$$ [Dec. 23rd, 2007|11:34 pm]
[Current Location |kitchen - having instant noodles on the counter-]
[Current Mood |whatever]

So today I as working at Causeway Point, its a small Christmas fair, and for my Godmother so work was do-as-you-please.

I hate money. I hate how it restricts you. How without money you can't execute dreams or ideas, and the dreams will always be a dream and idea always an idea until someone who doesn't have fathomless pockets comes along and steals it away.

Today's complaint is about education:

As you all know, I'm scanning Singapore for a school that will accept me. I got rejected by Tampines, I found out through the online registration. I'm not sure if its because I don't have prelims, or its an outright rejection. But anyways, if not I'd try Serangoon, or even Meridian. So as I was working, I was talking to my co-vendor's daughter Pam. She's in Overseas Family School and we were discussing each other's education system. Well let me tell you guys, OUR EDUCATION ROUTE SUCKS! YOU HEAR?!
Do you know, Pam and I, we're the same age, but she gets to go to University -she's applying to NUS Arts & Social Science Faculty- next year. She also told me with side-note that she's not trying to sound condescending, that A' Levels standard if you were to switch it to her IB points (Max. points is 45), A levels can only reach a maximum of 35 points. She told me the A level Chemistry textbook cannot cover adequately all that she needs to study for her IB exams. By the way, Pam, also had time during her school year, to sit for her SATs this year. So not only is she more free, her examination qualifications are more impressive. Her school fees at OFS, is close to USD 11000 +/ year. So here I am wondering, do the rich really get it all? How about that debating show that was on Channel Five? The international schools beat our locals ones FLAT, even the branded Raffles students. Might I also remind you how much we, or rather you two (laura & bianca) are slogging , or will be slogging?

I just want to compile a list of what i'm unhappy about right now:

  1. That i can't take a 5 months break away from Singapore's education system and come back with an assurance that I'm not public school destitute
  2. That international schools seems to be easier and yet more effective than ours
  3. That my parents wouldn't even hear about me taking A levels as a private candidate because the costs are too high and if I so much as disobey them and think of applying, my mother, MY MOTHER said "I'm out of the house" (think she's trying to exercise some form of authority over me by speaking like my father, but hello, its outright ridiculous, and i was thinking of working at the same time as studying to pay half or even most of it)
  4. That i can't take A levels as a private candidate, have school at random hours on random days of a week
  5. That I have to go through the stress of junior college because I can't afford to go to a private one
And my mother was just ranting on about why i'm suddenly so JC crazy and wasting everyone's time. Which is quite true really, i mean reading this entry must have taken about 10 minutes. But okay, i'm fickle. But really, whatever. I'm feeling really whatever.

gosh this year has been a remarkable year for me. It really has. So much good has come from this year, I don't even know where to start. I was so afraid at the beginning of the year because I was separate from all of you guys and making friends is always so so difficult.  But, surprisingly it was really easy for me. Everything just fell into place from the start in sr and then cj. I've met so many amazing people this year. People who genuienly care for me and I honestly have to say they have made this year so easy for me to get through. You know aza, how you keep saying thatyou'd never expect me to befriends with the people i'm friends with. i took this quiz on facebook, yeah i know, facebook. It was what disney princess am i. I'm ARIEL. it said sth there which was very interesting that i have no preconceived biases against people. I think that is so true and that is really what has helped me so much this year. Along with God. He just helped me so so so much. You know i got a progress award, 200 bucks. haha. me? a good progress award, funny isn't it. anyways i'm writing this because now that the year is ending, i've been reflecting so so much and i'm so sad its ending. I hope next year is filled with equally the same amount of greatness. thank you guys for everything too.

PS: Christmas party at my place is around 730, so dress your best:)
